Crytek working on Homefront 2

THQ has confirmed that Crytek’s UK-based studio, formerly known as Free Radical, is working on Homefront 2.

The studio formerly known as Free Radical was responsible for developing the multiplayer portion of Crysis 2, which most agreed was an interesting and solid online FPS game.

Crytek takes over from Kaos Studios, which was shut down shortly after the release of Homefront. The sequel is expected to pick up after the events in Homefront.

“We see Homefront as a really strong universe that has a lot of potential and that has been expertly created and marketed by THQ,” said Crytek boss Cevat Yerli.

“We believe that bringing our level of quality, creativity and production values to the next Homefront title, creates an opportunity for both THQ and Crytek to deliver a truly blockbuster game. It’s really important to us that THQ has the faith in giving us a lot of creative freedom over one of its most important properties to allow us to bring the Homefront world to life in a new and innovative way.”

The original Homefront did fairly well with critics, earning a respectable, yet not head-turning 70/100 Metacritic score.

THQ is aiming to release Homefront 2 in “fiscal year 2014”, which means we can expect it out sometime in 2013.
