3DS users don't like 3D

I am a long-time campaigner against 3D in games and movies, at least as it exists in its current state. I never miss an opportunity to talk about how terrible it is, and thus it just wouldn’t be right for me to miss an opportunity to report on it.

According to a new study, conducted by research firm Interpret LLC, 28 percent of users of the Nintendo 3DS believe the 3D feature detracts from the gameplay experience, which is a bit like saying the Wii is ruined by having to move your hand.

A measly 22 percent thought the 3D improved the gameplay, and 13 percent of respondents were so annoyed with the effect that they turned it off altogether when playing.

Of the 1600 participants, only 7 percent liked the idea of a 3D handheld, with 56 percent preferring anything 3D to happen on a console connected to a television.

The silver lining to all this is that user awareness of the device is up 60 percent from last year, although perplexingly, only 28 percent of that total knew that the device didn’t require 3D glasses.

Where did they find these people?
