Starbreeze says Syndicate is "harder than most"

2 October 2011

Starbreeze, developer of upcoming Syndicate remake, has promised that the game is “harder than a lot of games out there.”

Lead designer Rickard Johansson sat down for a talk with Xbox World, discussing the team’s desire to to create a challenge. He said the team’s goal was to make the game “challenging, but not frustrating.”

That is certainly an optimal balance, and one a lot of games try to achieve. According to the latest issue of Xbox World, Starbreeze can achieve this through Syndicate’s clever AI, which “moves away from the lazy tactic of having respawning enemies to create a ‘challenge’”.

It goes on to explain, “Different Syndicates will behave very differently to each other, meaning you need to adapt to circumstances as you play.

“Some will rely on tech, while others will be more aggressive and use brute force. Some work on a commander system, others co-ordinate on the fly… It looks impressive and could be a real asset for the final game.”

Xbox World has a point – it certainly does sound cool, and consumers can be very receptive to challenging games, evidenced by the success of titles such as Dark Souls and Super Meat Boy. Put this on your games-to-watch list, if it’s not there already.
