Dice on Mirror's Edge 2: "People are ready"

8 October 2011

Sometimes a game being good just isn’t enough to make it sell (and sometimes it being bad isn’t enough to stop it from selling). This was the case with DICE’s Mirror’s Edge, a free-running FPS that was very well received critically, but unfortunately not commercially.

Despite the flop, DICE thinks that the world is ready for a sequel. Producer Patrick Liu, talking to Sprong said “I think it’s something that people are ready to get into again.”

“We see that there’s a huge fan following, it’s almost like a cult! And we know what strengths we had, and what weaknesses we had in that game. If we were to release a new game, we’d know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience. So I definitely think there’s a market there.”

Earlier this year, EA exec Frank Gibeu stated that they’re “actively” looking at how to bring it back in the right way.

“We love that franchise, the DICE guys really created something special the first time around. You’ve got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one, and that’s what we’re working on.”

While there certainly seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for the IP, DICE aren’t giving any real information as to when we might be seeing a sequel, or even an announcement that it’s being worked on.
