Grand Theft Auto 3 coming to iOS and Android

13 October 2011

Grand Theft Auto 3 is 10 years old, and to celebrate, Rockstar are bringing the granddaddy of the sandbox to the latest generation of iOS and Android devices.

If you never had the chance to play Grand Theft Auto 3, then you probably won’t understand what all the fuss is about.

In their release, Rockstar described GTA 3 as “a game that set players loose as a small-time criminal at the bottom of the food chain in Liberty City, a sprawling metropolis where anything can happen – and probably will.”

For its time, GTA 3 was the most controversial mainstream game floating about; and was probably blamed for 9/11 at some point.

It’s not the first time GTA has gone to mobile devices – with the GTA Liberty City and Vice City stories being a couple of the most popular titles on PSP; but really, they were watered down, compared to the full GTA 3 game.

Rockstar have said the game will be available “later this fall” – which in South African terms is…um, late Spring?

Our American-Interpretation machine puts that at “end of October, early November”, but it might be broken.

Perhaps just in time for Christmas if we’ve learnt anything about the machinations of the gaming industry.

The game will be available on the following devices:

Apple iOS
iPad 2
iPhone 4S

Android Phones
Droid X2
HTC Evo 2
LG Optimus 2X
Motorola Atrix
Samsung Galaxy S2

Android Tablets
Acer Iconia
Asus Eee Pad
Motorola Xoom
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
