Battlefield 3 PC version leaked 12 days before release

17 October 2011

A torrent file allegedly containing a leaked copy of Battlefield 3 for PC has turned up on various torrent networks.

The leak supposedly allows you to play the single player campaign without any issues, but obviously you will not be able to play its multiplayer portion, which is the game’s primary selling point.

We won’t be downloading the game, so we can’t confirm whether or not the leak works.

There is no clear indication of where the leak came from, although the installation is in Russian.

The download weighs in at around 10GB, and although the installation is in Russian, the leak includes the English version of the game.

Further reports indicate that there is still no working crack for the leaked game, however, the broader consensus is that it’s only a matter of time before it is cracked.

Neither DICE nor EA have commented on the leak.

Ironically, DICE has been vocal about developing Battlefield 3 with the PC as a lead platform, and has optimized it for high-end gaming rigs.

Although early leaks are never a good thing, in this case it’s difficult to imagine the leak having any real impact on sales, given that the multiplayer portion is the game’s primary selling point.

In similar news, the Xbox 360 version of Batman: Arkham City was leaked a few days ago.

Battefield 3 is being released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 28 October.
