Matthew Grose, general manager of Core Gaming, SA distributor of Nintendo products, has told MyGaming that due to a weak Rand vrsus Euro exchange rate, the distributor will increase the recommended retail price (RRP) from R1,899 to R1,999.
The official statement from Core Gaming reads, “Due to fluctuations in the exchange rate, Core Gaming Systems have made the decision to increase the trade cost price of the Nintendo 3DS to retailers from 18 October, with a recommended retail price (RRP) of R1,999.”
As the distributor of Nintendo products, Core gaming sets the RRP on items such as the 3DS and Wii in South Africa. Retailers who sell the 3DS to the general public will decide whether to increase their own price of the 3DS, and when this will actually take effect.
Grose did mention that other Nintendo hardware including the Wii would not experience a price increase.
We did ask if the price of Nintendo games would increase, however Core responded with, “we are unable to comment at this time.”
So if you fancy getting a 3DS just before the Christmas season, you might want to do it ASAP.
