Epic new cinematics emerge from Blizzcon

22 October 2011

Few game developers hold the kind of sway over the community that Blizzard has.

Their secretive nature, amazing games and “when its done” approach to release dates make for a level of anticipation perhaps unrivalled in the gaming community.

If you’ve just joined us from a lengthy coma, this weekend is Blizzcon, the one and only time you’re guaranteed to get the scoop on Blizzard’s upcoming games, currently Diablo 3 and the upcoming Starcraft 2 expansion, Heart of the Swarm.

Well Blizzard has delivered once again, in the form of some sick new videos.

These clips showcase not only Blizzard’s always amazing cinematic skills, but also give you a preview of the things you’ll be seeing in the final game. Enjoy.

First up is what everyone has been waiting for, Diablo 3. The cinematic introduces a new evil, and sets the story up to revolve around “the black soul stone”. Check it out:

Next we have the latest Heart of the Swarm trailer, which aside from being pretty damn epic, also showcases a lot of the new units we’ll be seeing in the expansion. Story’s looking good too:

Finally, Blizzard has finally given us a decent look at Blizzard DOTA, and I must say, it looks pretty impressive. They also make mention of ladder points, indicating this is more than just a custom map, but will also have its own ranking system. With all the DOTA clones running around in 2012, it’s going to be interesting to see who can take over (or hang onto) a big share of the market:

MyGaming forumites have also been busy gathering up videos from BlizzCon and you can check out some of the talks on the new StarCraft II units in the MyGaming forum.
