In a recent financials briefing, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata has confirmed that the company has seen a “huge loss” this year, and blamed the August 3DS price cut for most of this.
Obviously the fact that the RRP was dropped because it wasn’t really selling in the first place is irrelevant, or maybe an evil Western round-eye conspiracy.
“As for our Nintendo 3DS, the hardware markdown has resulted in a huge loss in this fiscal year,” said Iwata. “However, as we are going ahead with gradual cost-cutting efforts, from a profit standpoint, improvements are expected to be made in the next fiscal year.”
He also acknowledged the “big intervals” between 3DS title launches during 2011, adding that Nintendo is “making preparations in collaboration with third-party developers so that a continuous stream of expected titles shall be launched in the next fiscal year as well.”
In the meantime, though, maybe Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Mario 3D Land will push a few Xmas sales, and if that doesn’t work, well, it’s all on the WiiU.
