EA has “aggressive DLC plan” for Battlefield 3

30 October 2011

DLC has taken over the gaming world, with developers having an easy opportunity to both extend the longevity of their games as well as their profit margins; DLC has shown a consistent increase in popularity.

DICE has revealed in a conference call with investors that they’re not ones to squander such an opportunity, with EA’s Frank Gibeau saying that they have an “aggressive downloadable content plan”.

The first of these will be the expansion pack Back to Karkand, which will be the beginning of a set of expansions. This is the only announced DLC pack so far, and it will come at no cost to owners of the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition.

Gibeau assures fans though that they have a lot of these kinds of expansions to look forward to, saying, “Our plans over the next 6 months is to have a very robust set of expansion packs past on Strike at Karkand and that we think the community’s going to be very, very excited about.”

It’s not just the expansions EA plans to work on either, with Gibeau assuring players that EA will be “constantly improving servers and infrastructure with new features and enhancements”.  While EA has not outlined what exactly we can expect from the future expansion packs, they’ll most likely include new maps and a bigger weapon and vehicle arsenal.

Gibeau also didn’t offer any details on the pricing structure of the upcoming expansions, although it seems safe to assume that only the first one will be free to Limited Edition owners.
