Battlefield 3 Steam release evidence appears

31 October 2011

In two separate incidents, evidence has emerged that Steam is gearing up to sell Battlefield 3. First off, code contained within the game’s Punkbuster installation files points directly to the following directories:

•    C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 3\
•    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\battlefield 3\
•    C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\battlefield 3\
•    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 3\

This may of course just be code left in the game from an older build before it transpired that Steam would not be selling Battlefield 3.

That’s not the only clue, however, and a competition currently being run by Sapphire is promising Battlefield 3 Steam codes as prizes.

“From all eligible Gold members who have opted in to receive the SSC newsletter by the Entry Deadline, the recipients will be selected at random through a draw from the following gift:

One (1) PC Game code for Battlefield 3, redeemable for the game on Steam (www.steampowered.com) with a Suggested Retail Price of $USD 59.99″

Again, this may just be an error on Sapphire’s part, and is by no means a clear indication that Battlefield 3 is coming to Steam, but we can hope – or is it too late?
