It’s official, or at least mostly official – following yesterday’s rumours that Silicon Knights had sacked three quarters of its employees, it’s been confirmed that yes, employees have been sacked, but it’s actually only about half of them.
“Last week Silicon Knights experienced layoffs due to extended contract negotiations falling through with a potential partner,” a company rep told Kotaku.
“We are currently in discussions with other potential partners. The recent Ontario government funding is tied to future performance targets, spread out over the next 5 years, which we will meet.
“The company is currently refocusing and returning to its roots, working on one of its most requested titles for the next generation.”
Silicon Knights’ “roots” don’t go very deep, with a catalogue of just nine games released since 1992, and most of them you’ve probably never heard of.
That leaves, basically, sequels to Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.
Or maybe another Cyber Empires, oooh!

Honestly, nope, I hadn’t heard of it either.
