Ubisoft seems to be playing Activision’s game here by announcing during the company’s earnings report that a new Assassin’s Creed game will be swooping down on us next year in 2012.
That will make it the fourth mainstream Assassin’s Creed game in as many years.
The game is a “full-fledged” release and there will be more information in the coming months, naturally – so all we can do for now is speculate – but Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, has called it a “major release” – which alludes to a possible “Assassin’s Creed 3” title.
With next week’s AC: Revelations, Ubisoft have already said they’d be wrapping up Ezio’s storyline in the game, so next year’s release will probably take a different route.
Maybe we’ll get to step into the shoes of another assassin from another point in time – or perhaps we’ll play exclusively as Desmond as he moves to prevent the “big event” happening in 2012 that’s been looming since the first game.
Whatever the case, Assassin’s Creed is proving to be a very successful franchise for Ubisoft, and they’re unlikely to drop the ball on this one.
