Limbo passes 1 million sales mark

11 November 2011

Playdead has announced that its creepy platformer Limbo has just passed the coveted 1 million sales mark – an impressive achievement for an indie developer.

The game has been played by people in over 153 counties in nine language accross PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Thanks to the comercial success of the game, developer PlayDead has been able to purchase full control of itself from early investors.

“With the success that Limbo has achieved, we felt this was the ideal time to fully regain our independence,” said CEO Dino Patti.

“We are grateful to everyone who supported us over the past few years, and look forward to forging new partnerships that will both let us reach new heights as a studio and give our director, Arnt Jensen, room to grow creatively.”

We absolutely loved Limbo when it was released back in 2010.

Tarryn had this to say about the game in her review: “Simply, Limbo is the must-play XBLA title of the year, and almost certainly the best Xbox exclusive on the service. It’s about as close to perfect as any game can possibly be, and its only shortcoming is that it’s, well, short – you’re likely to complete it in around five hours.”
