While Bobby Kotick is being fanned with a palm leaf and having grapes popped into his mouth right about now, following Modern Warfare 3’s staggering launch success, Bethesda looks set to take the wind out of his sails.

With both games competing for the spotlight, it’s hard to say exactly which has been more eagerly anticipated.

One thing which can be said with certainty however is that on Steam; Modern Warfare 3 is getting crushed.

According to Steam’s tracker, Skyrim has ascended to an incredible peak of 231,593 concurrent players on its first day.

If that figure doesn’t impress you, how about this one – Modern Warfare 3 is in 2nd place, with a somewhat underwhelming 78,161.

While some may be unsurprised that Skyrim is taking the lead, I challenge anyone to not be a little stunned that it is tripling the numbers of Activision’s record-breaking shooter.
