Xbox is having a good month, with October NPD sales reporting that it is the top of the heap – and by quite a margin as well.
According to the Xbox Live head of marketing Robin Burrowes, the platform is very healthy on that front as well.
Starting with a paltry 50,000 users at launch in 2002, the service now boasts over 35 million.
The launch of Facebook and Twitter on Xbox Live in 2009, along with the exceedingly popular Modern Warfare 2, doubled the user base from the previous year to an impressive 20 million, with the launch of Kinect in 2010 adding another 15 million.
Speaking at the London Games Conference, Burrowes made the startling statement that the Xbox Live service now gains a new member every two seconds.
According to Burrowes, within five years all entertainment will be interactive.
Burrowes also provided some interesting statistics, saying that over 75 percent of European console owners watch movies on their consoles, 72 percent download content and another 42 percent use social networks, chat and e-mail to talk with contacts while watching TV.
Seems consoles aren’t just for shooting people in the face anymore.
