PETA hates on Super Mario 3D Land

As part of its five-year plan to roll every eye in the galaxy, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has criticised Super Mario 3D Land of what they’re claiming is an endorsement of wearing fur.

You see, in Super Mario 3D Land, there’s a “Tanooki Suit” powerup that gives Mario the ability to glide across the screen.

But you see, according to PETA, “Tanooki may be just a ‘suit’ in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it’s OK to wear fur.”

So you see.

In response to Mario’s shameless advocacy of animal murder, PETA has put together a Flash game where you play as a skinned Tanooki, and must hunt down Mario and reclaim your stolen bits.

It’s totally meta.

I wonder when PETA is going to hear about all that wanton slaughter of dragons in Skyrim. Who’s going to stand up for the mythical reptiles?
