Birmingham Library

Are you an aspiring developer?

Do you go to sleep every night wishing that someone would pay you to make a game designed to make kids more interested in libraries?

Well your prayers have been answered, because Birmingham library is looking for a team to create a game to celebrate the opening of a new £188.8 million building in 2013.

The selected company will be required to work with the Library’s technology partner, Service Birmingham, to create a gaming experience which will allow members of the public to enjoy the content and services of the Library of Birmingham using mobile and tablet hardware. The game should aim to attract new audiences to the Library.

Mike Whitby, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “When the new Library of Birmingham opens in 2013 it will provide people with much greater access to both our world-class collections and services – both online and via the magnificent new building on Centenary Square as well.

“This gaming experience is an exciting opportunity for us to embrace state-of-the-art technologies and attract new audiences to the internationally important collections and extensive content of the new Library. We are looking for a company who will work creatively with us to create an exciting gaming experience which will be as ground-breaking as the new Library.”

The successful developer will receive a prototype fund to further develop their concept with an option of further funding if the project is then approved for full development. The final gaming experience would be launched to coincide with the Library opening.

The deadline for submissions is 30 November. If you’re interested, contact Rebecca Cadwallader, Library of Birmingham, Innovation Project Lead, at [email protected].
