In what must surely be a first ever event of its kind, an entire MMORPG has been accidentally nuked during a maintenance procedure.
And wait, it gets even better – there were no recoverable backups, so it’s gone permanently, forever and ever.
According to a report over on IgxPro, the Japanese / Korean MMORPG, M2, was going through some kind of “emergency maintenance” on 21 October when code was somehow erased from the game’s databases.
Game operator Hangame has since shut down the game permanently, offering a “very humble apology” that totally won’t make up for all the hours players spent grinding XP.
There does seem to be a bit of doubt about it all, though, with some gamers speculating that the game was simply cancelled because it wasn’t making any money.
Surely it would be easier to just, you know, cancel it, though.
Still, now would probably be a good time to backup your stuff, hey. Just in case.
