Ahead of its big-boy I’M-A-REAL-GAME-NOW launch on PC tomorrow, Minecraft: Pocket Edition today launched as a universal app for iOS devices.
“Minecraft – Pocket Edition allows you to build on the go,” says the official App Store blurb. “Use blocks to create masterpieces as you travel, hangout with friends, sit at the park, the possibilities are endless. Move beyond the limits of your computer and play Minecraft everywhere you go.”
More importantly, it’s a scaled-down version of the PC game’s Classic mode, featuring only 36 block types and local wireless network multiplayer.
That means no survival or adventure mode, or at least not for the moment – the title screen says “v0.12 alpha” in prominent letters so maybe that’s going to change later on.
The same version of the game originally launched as a timed exclusive on Sony’s Xperia Play back in August, and on Android devices in October.
It’s tagged at £4.99 / $9.99, and I totally bought it.
