PS3 firmware update to enable PS Vita Remote Play

25 November 2011

Eurogamer has learned from a Tokyo Games Show demonstration by Sony‘s Shuhei Yoshida that, with the help of a firmware update, it would be possible for your PS3 to stream games to a PS Vita via Remote Play.

Shuhei demonstrated Killzone 3 being shifted to the PS Vita from the PS3, showing that any missing DualShock buttons would be shifted to the touchscreen.

Initially, the game would display at PSP resolutions, but developers could make a ‘Vita-mode’ of their titles to display at the Vita’s native 420p.

The demonstration also showed off co-operative features, with another Sony guy playing Little Big Planet 2, while on the Vita, Shuehei used the touchscreen to change the environment and pilot a plane.

So, presumably, you would then be able to run off to the loo and not have to pause your game, and simply take it along with you; or assist your friend from the ceramic throne while he plays…and tries not to think too hard about that one.
