Rumour Control: Dragon Age multiplayer mode in the works

According to Kotaku, an “insider” has reported that Dragon Age is going multiplayer.

Dragon Age has established itself as one of gaming’s most important RPG franchises, although Dragon Age 2 did not quite match the critical acclaim of its predecessor. It has to date remained firmly positioned as a story driven single player experience, so it remains to be seen just how a multiplayer component could be worked into the overall narrative.

The same source claims that dragons will be playable in Dragon Age’s multiplayer.

The source was unable to specify whether the multiplayer would be a feature of the announced Dragon Age 3, or if it is being developed as a standalone game. He did say that the game is being will use DICE‘s Frostbite 2 engine, and that it looks stunning.

The multiplayer will supposedly be arena-based, and will also feature player vs. environment elements. It will also feature humans fighting against dragons.

Those were all the details the source could reveal.

EA has yet to comment on the rumour.
