DICE has confirmed that Battlefield 3’s Back to Karkand DLC expansion will be launching on – airstrike, please – 6 December for PS3, and 13 December for PC and Xbox.
“Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is a huge expansion pack featuring four legendary Battlefield maps reimagined in the Frostbite 2 engine,” reads the announcement over on the official Battlefield blog.
“Three new vehicles (the VSTOL fighter jet, Desert Buggy, and an APC), ten new weapons that you can bring back to the base game, and a new layer of persistence with our all-new Assignments make this a must-have for any Battlefield fan.”
Those “legendary” maps are Battlefield 2’s Wake Island, Sharqi Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, and Strike at Karkand, and according to DICE, “huge portions of these maps can be razed to the ground”. Oorah!
The expansion also introduces the new Assignments system, tasking players with certain objectives to unlock weapons, as well as five new Trophies / Achievements for PS3 and Xbox:
- Complete Warrior
Get a kill with the following weapons in a single life: Rifle, Jet, Tank
- Third Tour
Get a kill with the new APC, Desert Buggy, and STOVL fighter jet
- Gunslinger
Get 10 kills with all B2K weapons
- Like a Boss!
Get a kill with the skid loader
- Jaws
Take a swim in the pool at the Oman hotel
The expansion is free to everybody who bought a new copy of the Limited Edition of the game, and tagged at $14.99 on the in-game store and PlayStation Store, and 1200 MSP on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.
