Zynga has just announced their stock market flotation of $9 billion for 14.3 percent of their shares, and now we can see why they’re able to command that kind of price.
The developer has revealed that their number one Facebook game Cityville enjoys 49.7 million unique monthly users – over 10 million of them playing the game every single day. At its peaks, Cityville logs as many as 4 million simultaneous players.
This puts it easily out in front as Facebook’s most popular game, with sister-game Farmville bringing up the rear with 30.9 million monthly users. EA throws its hat in the ring with Sims Social, coming in a close 3rd at 30.4 million users.
41 percent of Cityville players are male, 53 percent female and 6 percent are hermaphroditic body snatchers, or “undetermined’. Cityville’s average user requires a fix of 5 play sessions a day, which doesn’t exactly line up with the number lunch hours the average person enjoys.
To be fair, Quinton Bronkhorst does spend most of his paid time at the MyGaming offices breeding dragons, but at least that’s for a good cause.
