Good Old Games announces massive holiday sale

Thanks to Steam, digital game sales have become increasingly common over recent years. The December holiday period is particularly exciting for PC gamers on a budget, with various digital distributors discounting loads of titles.

We can expect Steam to kick off an epic Winter sale in the coming weeks, but bargain hunters don’t have to wait that long, because Good Old Games, has announced that its holiday sale will kick off this weekend.

Not content to simply discount a handful of games for a few days, GoG is going big this year, starting off from Thursday by reducing The Witcher 2 by 40% and throwing in a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition for free.

Then, over the weekend GoG will be throwing around free codes for games likes of Master of Orion 1+2 and Realms of Arkania 1+2. Then, for 48 hours anyone will be able to grab a free copy of Empire Earth: Gold Edition.

Also, all GoG’s Kalypso games will be 50% off throughout the weekend. Technically it’s not much of a sale up until this point; it’s more of a giveaway.

But don’t fret, because from Monday onwards GoG will reduce “virtually every single game” in its catalogue by 50 percent until 2 January 2012, which is kind of ridiculous when you consider how cheap GoG games already are.

Also, GoG games ship without DRM and work perfectly in Windows.

GoG, as the name suggests, sells old games that are usually difficult to find in traditional retail outlets. Its catalogue includes the likes of Age of Wonders, Arx Fatalis, Baldur’s Gate 2, Commandos 2, Dark Reign 2, Desperados, Disciples 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Earthworm Jim, Fallout, Gothic, Jagged Alliance and loads more.

Most games sell for either $5.99 (R50) or $9.99 (R85), so from next week you should be able to find most of your old favourites for either R25 or R42.
