“Power tends to corrupt,” wrote Lord Acton in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighten in 1887. “And absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
The people over at EA‘s policy enforcement division might want to have a long, hard think about that with regards their banning policies.
So here’s what went down, according to a post over on the Escapist forums:
A user named MaximumTacos was mentioned in a sweary comment by another user on EA’s forum, which resulted in the forum’s auto censor/nanny filter temporarily suspending and then banning MaximumTacos not only from the EA forum, but also from Battlefield 3 (including single-player campaign!) as well as Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
Seriously, this is a thing that actually happened.
After contacting EA’s support, he was told that his account “has been permanently terminated from the Electronic Arts Online service for violating the terms of services. The account will no longer be accessible in any way, and all property, items, and characters associated currently are or will soon be deleted.”
At this point, I think the only way EA could generate even worse publicity would be committing genocide.
