After a bit of a delay yesterday, the Xbox dashboard update started rolling out to users around the world a couple of hours ago, aaaaaaand is now breaking Xbox LIVE in the process.
The official Xbox LIVE status page is flashing a bunch of connectivity alerts, warning that users “may experience difficulty” with any of the following services:
- Signing into Xbox LIVE from an Xbox console
- Signing into Games for Windows – LIVE on a PC
- Signing into Xbox LIVE from Xbox.com
- Signing into the Xbox LIVE forums
- Everything else, probably
Xbox LIVE commander Major Nelson has reassured Xbox users that “the team is working on it”, but until fifty million people stop attempting to download the update at the same time, it’s likely that connectivity problems will persist.
Just keep trying, that’s what everybody else is doing. Scientists call this a “self-sustaining cycle of fail”.
The update adds a bunch of new stuff to the platform, including cloud storage for game saves and Gamertags, new social features, and a huge list of live and streaming TV apps that aren’t supported in South Africa.
At least it’s not a very big download.
