Miyamoto retirement saga continues

Following on from yesterday’s is-he, isn’t-he story about Nintendo hero Shigeru Miyamoto’s is-it, isn’t-it retirement, Wired writer Chris Kohler has confirmed that the interview was printed exactly as it happened, and that there was no error in context or translation.

In the interview, Miyamoto told Kohler that he was “retiring from [his] current position” as head of Nintendo’s game design department, and moving onto smaller projects within the company instead. Later in the day, Nintendo denied this, saying that Miyamoto’s comments had been a big misunderstanding, haaaai, nothing to wolly about, please to stop selling the shares.

But is this some kind of cover-up?

“Miyamoto’s comments as presented in our story are exactly what Miyamoto said, and presented with the full context of his remarks,” Kohler told G4TV. “We are absolutely standing by those statements as reported.”

According to Kohler, the translator has also been with Miyamoto for a “very, very, very long time”, which does make the “big misunderstanding” thing a bit unlikely.
