The zombie/survival genre has certainly blossomed in recent years, and now it seems every major developer is looking to get in on the action. With new PS3 exclusive The Last of Us looking to fit the same mould, Epic has now announced their own zombie title – Fortnite.
The debut trailer was brief and the information for the moment thin – a short clip free of any actual gameplay footage shows various characters scavenging scrap metal and digging through trash before taking it back to their safehouse. Shortly afterwards night falls and the zombie hordes arrives, causing them to hastily close the gates to their refuge.
This is a very different game to The Last of Us however, with Epic’s cartoonish graphics and exaggerated characters in stark contrast to Sony’s bleak, grim post-apocalyptic environment.
Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski had this to say: “You’ll explore, you’ll scavenge, you’ll build, you’ll survive.” Other than that, there’s no information on a release window, a platform, or even what genre the game fits into.
