“No dudebros” in Epic’s Fortnite

Epic Games might be best known for big burly men in bulky body armour, but they’re doing something a bit different with Fortnite, the company’s hot new “it’s-totally-not-Minecraft”. I’d call for a mega fist-bump, but it just doesn’t seem appropriate somehow.

“There’s no dudebros in it,” Epic’s Cliff Blezsinski told Joystiq at the 2011 VGAs. “Not that there’s anything wrong with that, right? But creatively for the team, Gears has been amazing for us. But it’s fun to kind of stretch our wings and do something that’s a little different from the usual.

“It was a project that was pitched internally. I was a staunch supporter of the idea, because the game is just like a no-brainer – I was like yes.”

The game, announced at the VGAs over the weekend, sees a bunch of guys exploring and building forts during the day, and defending them from hordes of monsters during the night. No other information has been confirmed yet, including platforms, so it’s presumably not an exclusive. The important thing is, no dudebros.
