BioWare is making Command & Conquer: Generals 2

12 December 2011

Recent rumours that famous RPG developer BioWare is working on a new Command & Conquer game have proven true. The developer announced at the Spike VGAs over the past weekend that it is working on Command & Conquer: Generals 2 and that it will use the Frostbite 2 engine.

BioWare label GM Ray Muzyka said “we’re bringing BioWare’s vision for emotionally engaging gameplay and great attention to quality to the strategy genre and the Command & Conquer franchise.”

To some, the idea of Bioware working on a strategy game might be a little odd. After all, this is the developer famous for RPG icons such as Baldur’s Gate, Mass Effect, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. However, Bioware’s tagline reads as follows: “The BioWare label is a division of EA which crafts high quality multi-platform role-playing, MMO and strategy games.”

“I am excited to welcome BioWare Victory to our label. They are a great addition and the team is working hard to make sure Generals 2 truly immerses and engages players into this intense, gritty, modern war experience,” said Muzyka.

Executive producer Jon Van Caneghem added: “With Generals 2, we are bringing the Command & Conquer franchise back to its roots, blending strategic gameplay with fast-paced action — all set in visually stunning theatres of war powered by Frostbite 2.”

Command & Conquer: Generals 2 is being developed exclusively for PC, and is expected to be released sometime in 2013.
