Is there another Battlefield game in development? That probably goes without saying, but it looks like DICE might be going back to the future for its next round of pew-pew-pew, and finally doing a sequel to 2006’s Battlefield 2142.
The rumour comes via the recently-launched Battlefield 3 expansion, Back to Karkand, where sharp-eyed gamers spotted a wall on the map Wake Island tagged with the text “2143”. The writing, as they say, is on the wall.
As BF3Blog points out, DICE has previously included small teasers for upcoming games in current titles. Back in June 2006, for example, a vehicle in the Battlefield 2: Armoured Fury map pack sported a licence plate reading “2142” – ahead of the game’s official reveal at E3 later that year. That looks like a pretty good precedent.
Considering EA’s ongoing mission to go head-to-head with the Call of Duty brand, it seems quite likely that another Battlefield title would be due out next year. Could gigantic mechs with gatling lasers make the difference?
