Crysis 2 was 2011’s most pirated game

3 January 2012

Crysis 2 is officially the biggest thing of 2011 – if pirated copies of the game count.

According to the annual chart o’ infamy over on TorrentFreak, it turns out EA‘s FPS beat out Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with almost four million downloads clocked by the end of the year.

Activision might’ve won the sales war against EA in 2011, but EA totally won the illegal downloads war. I’m sure they’re throwing a big party about it right now.

Other “winners” on the list include, predictably perhaps, Battlefield 3, FIFA 12, Portal 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Gears of War 3. I guess the reasoning is, “Hey, it’s totes popular and loads of people are buying it already so they don’t need my money”, although that doesn’t explain why almost 700 000 people downloaded Kinect Sports: Season Two.

The list also shows that PC gamers download games about four times more than Xbox and Wii gamers, while PS3 gamers weren’t even downloading enough games to make the list at all, which proves that people who buy games are much better-looking on average.
