In a video posted on Battlenet, Blizzard’s Jay Wilson and Chris Metzen (Senior Vice-president of Story & Franchise Development) discussed their experiences working on the Diablo Franchise over the years. Incidentally, the original game just passed its 15th anniversary.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Blizzard provided an extendeded Diablo retrospective, going into great detail describing the development of one of gaming’s most beloved franchises over the past 15 years.

Much to the delight of Diablo fans, Wilson says in the video “We are almost done with Diablo III, and that’s a fitting celebration of the 15th year anniversary for Diablo.”

“We’re very excited about Diablo III coming up. We think you’re going to like it a lot. On a personal level, it’s been really, really rewarding to get back into the Diablo franchise, and be able to help develop this story,” said Metzen.

“I’ve long felt that it’s potentially the most interesting franchise we’ve built. I just think that Diablo has potentially a level of soul that the others can’t quite reach.”

“We are almost done with Diablo III, and that’s a fitting celebration of the 15th year anniversary for Diablo. So, we are getting it to you as soon as we can,” said Wilson.

Diablo III is expected to be released this year, and BT Games is even hedging its bets on an early 2012 release, claiming that the game will be released in Q1 2012, despite there being no official public confirmation from Blizzard regarding a release date.
