A fresh report, attributed to one of trade website MCV’s “exemplary” and “ultra high level” sources, claims that Sony will reveal a brand new home console at E3 later this year.
“Obviously we can’t reveal our sources,” wrote MCV writer Ben Parfitt on Twitter. “But you have my personal word on this – the source is exemplary, 100 percent concrete, ultra high level.”
“Really, really wish I could name him/her/them/it but obviously cannot.”
Sony has responded to the rumour with its regulation “We don’t comment on rumour and speculation” tagline.
Microsoft is also expected to unveil a new Xbox at E3 this year, so 2012 may well be the year that we see the eventual move towards the next generation of console gaming.
Nintendo already revealed the Wii U, which will be its first foray into HD gaming. The Wii U is expected to be roughly as powerful as Sony and Microsoft’s current generation hardware.
Rumour has it that Microsoft will launch its next Xbox around Christmas 2013.
