No, no, no; there’s not going to be any announcement about the next-gen PlayStation console at E3, and this time it’s 100% officially, totally, seriously not happening.
Earlier this week, Sony prez Andrew House told CVG that the company was not “contemplating talking about anything to do with future console iterations at this point.”
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Sony’s Consumer Products and Services Groups boss Kaz Hirai agreed, explaining that “Andy is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3. I’ve always said [there will be] a ten-year life-cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”
So that’s that. Pack up your rumour generators and go home everybody; there’s nothing to do here.
In the meantime, I can’t decide which is more disappointing – that Sony won’t be showing off a new console, or that Michael Pachter was right.
