STALKER 2 dev still looking for funding

13 January 2012

Towards the end of last year whispers began emerging that developer GSC GameWorld was on the verge of shutting down. What followed was a torrent of gossip and speculation, which was eventually silenced with a single facebook update earlier this week:

“The Stalker team is extremely happy! Why? Because we are continuing work on Stalker 2 after the holidays.”

GSC GameWorld did not provide any additional details or explanation for the rumours.

However, in an interview with Edge, the studio’s Oleg Yavorsky said “We are still in the process of seeking funding to back up the project. We are hopeful things turn out well eventually.”

So while development may currently be underway, the future of the game remains up in the air. Ideally GSC GameWorld needs a few private investors or publishers to step in and save the day, but big name publisher involvement could mean a variety of things for the franchise, including the end of its PC exclusive status.
