PSA: Watch out for Halo 4 beta signups scam

19 January 2012

Hi, you look like a person with a high k/d and serious skills and that’s totally hot. Wanna sign up for the Halo 4 beta? Just click here, and make sure to have your Xbox LIVE login credentials and credit card details ready (for admin purposes only).

If you fell for that, consider yourself lucky – it’s not a real scam, just a really convincing version of one that I made up, and it’s also valuable practice for the actual real scam that’s going around right now.

“If you see a page claiming to allow you to sign up for a Halo 4 beta be advised, IT’S A FAKE,” posted 343 Industries’ Dave Ellis on Twitter.

Microsoft has not, of course, announced anything about a Halo 4 beta yet, which is also quite a big clue. The game’s scheduled to launch later this year, so there probably will be a beta at some point, though, but let’s deal with that when it happens.
