Boom! Thanks to the super sleuths of the Internet, we saw this one coming – but now, with all rumours put to rest, it’s official: Resident Evil 6 is coming – and it’s looking damn awesome.
Viral campaign “blog” nohopeleft.com spent the week updating the site with pictures from various locations bearing the biohazard symbol – and at 14h00 PST (that’s midnight here in SA), Capcom pulled back the curtain.
Resident Evil 6 is bringing Leon S. “check the emo flip” Kennedy and Chris “my head is smaller than my bicep” Redfield together in one action-horror title, taking place in two different locations.
Leon, who’s the US President’s favourite person, is seemingly forced to cap the US chief after a bioterrorist attack interrupts his planned reveal-all address to the nation – which leaves over 70,000 people infected and zombified.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the world in China, Chris drops down with his team to face an onslaught of zombies from yet another bioterror attack.
The trailer also reveals more insight into the story – featuring new faces, including a man of some prominence who has special blood (probably immune to the many mutating viruses).
The launch trailer also shows gameplay – and by the looks of things, Capcom certainly aren’t moving back towards traditional survival-horror – instead pushing ahead with it’s over-the-shoulder action-orientated gunplay.
Thankfully though, it looks like Leon and Chris are skipping remote Spanish and African locales, and are returning to the bustling, zombie-infested city streets we were so fond of in the past.
That means zombies, guys. Lots of zombies. And loads of massive monsters.
Even though the announcement didn’t catch us entirely off-guard, we never quite expected so much – and for it to look this good.
Oh, and Hiroyuki Kobayashi, Resident Evil 6’s Executive Producer, also added a bit of extra info:
“From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror.”
Co-op confirmed!
Better still – we have a date; Resident Evil 6 will be hitting PS3 and Xbox 360 on 20 November 2012, with the PC version still sitting as TBA on Capcom’s press site.
Check out the trailer below – it’s a goodie!
