EA announced a while back that it would be rebooting the iconic Syndicate franchise originally developed by Bullfrog productions. StarBreeze Studios is heading up development on the game, having previously released The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena as well as The Darkness.
The game will take place in 2069 in a world no longer governed by politicians, but instead ruled by mega-corporations known as syndicates. The syndicates have created neural chips which plug into civilians’ brains, granting them access to housing, education, medicine, entertainment, employment and so on. In return, the syndicates have direct access to the minds of their citizens, and are able to manipulate and control the population.
The syndicates are constantly at war with each other, employing special bio-engineered agents and chip-augmented officers.
Players will take on Miles Kilo, EuroCorp’s latest prototype agent, as he embarks on a mission steeped in revenge and corruption.
While the original game was a tactical isometric action game, the reboot will resemble something more along the lines of a Deus Ex title. Players will have access to a variety of weapons, as well as the “DART 6 bio-chip” technology that is implanted in Kilo’s head.
EA has described the game as “kind of mix between Crysis-style first-person shooter action and the clean sci-fi world of Mass Effect”.
EA announced on 21 January 2012 that a playable co-op demo will be released for Syndicate on Xbox Live on 31 January, and PSN on 1 February. The demo covers the “Western Europe” co-op mission, in which you steal blueprints from Cayman Global and assassinate Colonel Enrico Gabron, one of nine co-op challenges in the full game.
“In this mission called Western Europe, gamers must team up and infiltrate Cayman Global, assassinate Colonel Enrico Gabron, steal his technology blueprints and force his people back across the Atlantic. The odds of success look promising with Cayman Global badly weakened after their war against Eurocorp, but it won’t come easy.”
The game will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 24 February.
Additionally, players can download music from the original Syndicate remixed by Skrillex, Digitialism and Flux Pavilion by “liking” the Syndicate facebook page.
