Guild Wars 2 release window confirmed, open beta announced

23 January 2012

One of our most anticipated games of 2012 just got an open beta, and it will kick off in March.

“We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we’re now ready to hold progressively larger events,” wrote ArenaNet boss (founder and president) Mike O’Brien on the official Guild Wars 2 blog.

“In February we’ll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.”

No mention was made of just how we can get into the open-beta, but O’Brien suggested keeping an eye on the official Guild Wars 2 website, Facebook page and the ArenaNet Blog for more details.

“It’s been an incredible adventure over the past five years, working with our community and our team of dedicated artists, designers, and programmers to realize this vision. This year, the seeds of that work come to fruition. We can’t wait to play the game with you.”

That video has me convinced! I haven’t been following GW2 that much, but as I have weened myself off a long time WoW addiction this could definitely be the MMO that replaces it. SW TOR can DIAF as far as I am concerned until they bring out a boxset here (or at least let us purchase it!).

I quite like the look and feel of the game and point number 1 in the video makes me extremely happy – you can’t blame others for your shortcomings! Skill mode? Yes please!
