Blizzard has announced that it will not be holding its annual gaming convention because it is too busy working on games and organizing the 2012 Battle.net World Championship.
Confirmed for release from the publisher in 2012 are Diablo III, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm and World of WarCraft: Mists of Pandaria. On top of that, Blizzard is also working on its next-generation MMO which is currently being referred to as Titan, but has yet to be officially revealed.
Blizzard will also be focusing on the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, which is set to take place at the end of the year in Asia. The event will consist of StarCraft II and World of WarCraft Arena World Championship tournaments.
“We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We’re also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible,” said Blizzard in a press release.
“In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.”
Regarding the Battle.net World Championship, Blizzard had this to say:
“Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, a major global eSports event featuring some of the best pro-gaming competition in the world. Slated to take place in Asia toward the end of 2012, the Battle.net World Championship will host this year’s StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments. Blizzard gamers and eSports fans from around the world will be invited to attend and witness some of the most skilled pro players on the planet battle it out for cash and glory.”
Blizzard has not revealed exact dates for the tournament, and neither has it announced release dates for any of the major releases it is supposedly launching this year, so watch this space for more info as it becomes available.
