Final Fantasy XIII-3 is “inevitable” – Game Informer

Final Fantasy XIII-2 isn’t out here yet, but journalists more fortunate than us have already clocked up hours and hours of the game, and finished it.

Over at Game Informer, they finished the game and published their review – dropping the bomb on the little bit of the ending that will make players’ ears prick up: the words “to be continued.”

Obviously we’re not telling how the game ends – but it would seem that the story is left open enough, and leaves enough unanswered, to pretty much say with confidence that a follow-up is in the works – whether that’s a full game, though, remains to be seen.

“You aren’t even getting a complete story,” they said, “The canonical ending (there are multiple other ‘what if’ endings) concludes with the words ‘to be continued’.”

“After the credits, I sat in disbelief, wondering if I had done something wrong or somehow missed the true ending. I didn’t. Square Enix intentionally left the story incomplete. The announcement of Final Fantasy XIII-3 is inevitable.”

Even though the mag doubts that any form of DLC could tie the loose ends up – Square-Enix have said they’re going to be releasing DLC for the game, so perhaps that’s where things will be resolved.
