THQ leaving kids game market

Saints Row: The Third

THQ has confirmed that it is adjusting its business strategy, and that it will be refocusing on the “core games market”.

The publisher will continue to build its “strong portfolio of core game franchises and align its resources to deliver games on both existing consoles and new and emerging platforms.”

The new focus will also look to increase digital sales. This means that we can expect more post-release support for games.

The publisher will not abandon the children’s market altogether, and it will continue to push key franchises, however, the new outline indicates that THQ will focus on strong existing franchises, such as Saints Row: The Third – which sold 3.8 million copies and is expected to ship about 2 million more still.

The publisher pointed out that Saints Row: The Third “resulted in the highest digital revenue” in the publisher’s history.

With its five internal studios, THQ will be focusing on the following core franchises going foward: UFC, Darksiders, Company of Heroes, insane, Saints Row and Warhammer 40,000. Mention was also made of a new title from ex-Ubisoft designer Patrice Désilets and his new team.
