Following in World of Warcraft’s gigantic footsteps, Trion Worlds has made Rift free-to-play until level 20.

“Rift-lite”, as the publisher is calling it, allows players unrestricted access to the first 20 levels of the game, including each faction’s starting areas. Freemarch and Silverwood are both included, and should provide players with a sufficient taste of what to expect from the game in the long-term.

The game has also been updated to version 1.7, introducing a number of improvements its PVP system, and adding new PVE content including a Master Mode for the dungeon Caduceus Rise, as well as a brand new two player Chronicle which features the River of Souls.

We really liked Rift, and awarded it 85/100.

“Overall, RIFT is a great game that is somewhat held back by the striking similarities it shares with previous MMOs. If you are a newcomer to the MMORPG market, then RIFT is a great place to start. However, if you feel oversaturated with the standards and norms seen in the genre today, and are looking for something new, then RIFT is unlikely to give you that.” Check out our full Rift review.
