Alan Wake PC release date and pricing confirmed

Remedy Entertainment has announced that the PC version of Alan Wake will become available via Steam on 16 February, 2012, and thereafter through other popular digital channels. A boxed version of the game is also planned, although a release date for that was not confirmed.

The game will cost $29.99 (R240) on Steam, and the standard edition will include the full game as well as all the DLC released to date.

Alan Wake was one of the most highly anticipated Xbox 360 exclusives of 2010, and it enjoyed an overwhelmingly positive reception from critics and gamers alike. IGN, Official Xbox Magazine and CVG each scored it a 9/10, and it was Time Magazine’s favourite game of 2010.

It is billed as a story-driven, psychological thriller action game. It follows the story of Alan Wake, a bestselling novel writer whose latest novel begins playing out in real life as his wife disappears while on a vacation in the small town of Bright Falls.

One of the game’s unique gameplay features is its use of light. The core combat gameplay has been described as “fighting with light”.

PC gamers may have had to wait almost 2 years longer for the game, but will at least get to play it with high-resolution graphics. The PC version will also support stereoscopic 3D and multi-screen set-ups.

“We’ve done our best to do justice to the PC version and do things the way they should be done for PC. The PC version looks absolutely beautiful. We’re bringing the game to life in a whole new way,” said Nordic Games’ CTO Markus Mäki.

Remedy is self publishing Alan Wake on PC, and will work with Nordic Games to bring the game to retail. We are currently investigating the details of the local retail release, so watch this space.
