Psychonauts 2 might actually happen

8 February 2012

You know who wants a Psychonauts sequel? Only you and everybody else – including Psychonauts creator Tim Schafer and Minecraft guy Markus “Notch” Persson. There’s not much you can do to make it happen, of course, but they can. And they just might.

“Let’s make Psychonauts 2 happen,” posted Notch on Twitter. “Also, I’m serious.”

“Oh wait. Hm. This is interesting,” said Schafer in response.

“Let’s move this discussion offline,” added Steven Dengler, the guy who funded the recent port of Psychonauts for Mac.

Later that day…

“Tim and Markus are talking. Who knows what might happen?” read a statement to Eurogamer by Schafer’s studio, Double Fine.

The original Psychonauts, released in 2005, has become a bit of a cult superstar – despite tremendous critical acclaim and heaps of awards, the game was a commercial failure at launch, selling fewer than 100,000 copies over the next eight months, and costing publisher Majesco $18 million.
