Tim Schafer, overlord of the adventure genre and father of greats such as Day of the Tentacle and Grim Fandango, has confirmed that his mysterious fan-backed adventure game will be made.

“$407,470. I love you, world. Double Fine fans are the greatest fans in the whole world. Your [sic] gonna make me cry. : ) : ) : )” he twote earlier today.

This comes after $430,000 (and counting) has been raised on his Kickstarter page, $30,000 more than his original goal.

The project will take six-to-eight months, aimed for October 2012, and Double Fine’s next game is expected to be a classic point-and-click adventure.

Backers will receive a bunch of awesome goodies such as a full documentary series in 1080p HD video, including bonus footage, some unique posters, original concept art and even a mini painting of yourself done by the game’s artist. Assuming you have the money, of course.

One item that will tug at the heartstrings of any die-hard adventure buff is one of the last four remaining Triangle Boxed Day of the Tentacle editions still in their original shrink-wrap. Yours for the modest donation of $150,000.

Here’s hoping Cookie Monster makes an appearance in the new game, I love those damn ads.
