Today, two games which prior to their release were both on my Steam Wishlist are going 50% off on Steam.
Unlike most of the games that I add to my Wishlist, I did not purchase Rage or Stronghold 3 when they were released. Indeed, they were two of my most disappointing games of 2011, although my disappointment was drawn from the impressions provided by others, and not my own personal experience.
Fans of the Stronghold series the world over were getting hot under their collective collars at the prospect of the long awaited sequel. Sadly, in its release state the game was a buggy mess, and was panned by critics, earning a Metacritic score of 47/100.
This weekend the game is half price, marked down to $24.99 (R200). It’s probably still not worth it, although reports indicate that the several patches released to date have gone a long way to making it playable. Purchase at your own risk.
Then there is Rage, which was not nearly as disappointing as Stronghold 3. Again, bugs and glitches held the game back from satisfying its lofty expectations, but it settled on a pretty decent Metacritic score of 79/100. I have it on good authority that Rage has been patched up nicely, and for $14.99 (R120) we’re betting it’s probably worth it.
