Skyrim mods being downloaded by the million

15 February 2012

And the gods gave to the men of the earth a game called Skyrim, and  the men cried unto their gods and did say, “We love this game, we do, but, like, it would be so much radder if we had some modding tools so we could make pretty mudcrabs and stuff.”

And so the gods gave to the men of the earth a Skyrim Creation Kit, and the men were glad and made an offering to the gods of stolen apples and dead bodies and a lockpick.

~ The Book of Things, chapter 10, verses 14-16

In news that everybody saw coming, the Skyrim Creation Kit is officially a big hit with PC gamers with 2500 mods published on the Skyrim Workshop, and over 2 million downloads in its first week or so since launch.

According to the gloating press blurbs, Skyrim PC gamers are clocking in an average of 75 hours of total game time, which is more time than most people spend doing basically anything else, ever, except maybe sleeping and lazing in the bath.

On the sales front, the game is the fastest-selling in Steam history, and console versions of Skyrim outsold all exclusive titles on both Xbox and PS3 last year.

So that’s nice.
